Dark Fruit fans are a special breed. Whether they’re baking cakes, making ice cream or getting the logo tattooed on their bodies, they really put it out there for their favourite drink.

Now, Strongbow has paid them back for their dedication: by opening a ‘cakery’ in the middle of Manchester that dispensed doughnuts flavoured with Dark Fruit.

Teaming up with Doughnut Time to create the dreamy Dark Fruit-doused delights, Strongbow even linked up Nia, (a self-confessed superfan), with a pro-baker to create a mammoth cake inspired by the drink, to sit proudly at the centre of the cakery.

Cakery

The pop-up cakery was open for one day only, and Manchester was the perfect place to host it, having already been the most popular destination on this summer’s Strongbow Dark Fruit Ice Cream tour.

There was even a Hall of Fame for Dark Fruit’s most dedicated superfans, with golden frames honouring Kyle Gentleman – the hallowed inventor of Dark Fruit Ice Cream, and Alfie Smeaton, the lad who got a can of Dark Fruit inked on his thigh.

Donut

Doughnut Time provided over 2,000 doughnuts, each one smothered in icing that contained actual Dark Fruit. Name us anyone who doesn’t want a doughnut coated with cider. We’ll wait. Fans could also get their hands on Dark Fruit cupcakes personalised with their names. And, of course, there was a bar dishing out plenty of Dark Fruit too.

Cakes

The numbers were staggering: almost 800 people passed through the shop in a single day, scoffing 2,000 baked goods in total – not bad for a shop that was only open for 8 hours.

It goes without saying that a can or two was quaffed: a full 93% of those who came into the shop treated themselves to a Dark Fruits tipple (and tbh, we’re amazed at the 7% that didn’t). The cakery even raised a whopping £1,877 for charity in the process. The old adage goes that, if you build it, they will come: and if it’s serving Dark Fruit-tinged sweet treats, then you can put your house on it.
