A 24-year-old man arrested in connection with the disappearance of the Hull University student Libby Squire has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on unrelated charges.

Appearing at Hull magistrates court on Monday morning, Pawel Relowicz denied charges of voyeurism, outraging public decency and burglary. The allegations against him include masturbating in a public place, watching another person “doing a private act” for his own sexual gratification and stealing sex toys, underwear, condoms, photographs and computer equipment.

Representing Relowicz, Bill Waddington said he would not be making a bail application for his client. The district judge, Fred Rutherford, referred the matter to crown court for a hearing on 11 March.

Det Supt Matt Hutchinson said in a statement: “We are continuing to investigate the disappearance of Libby Squire and a 24-year-old man remains under investigation. Our priority remains to find Libby and support her family at this incredibly distressing time.”

Police were granted additional time to question Relowicz over the weekend, after arresting him on Raglan Street, about half a mile from Squire’s home. A car has also been recovered and a property on Raglan Street has been searched.

Squire, 21, a philosophy student from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, was last seen in Beverley Road in Hull after a night out. She was reported missing in the early hours of Friday 1 February.

Officers said she was dropped off near her home at 11.29pm and was seen near a bench on Beverley Road about 10 minutes later.

Police and volunteers have been searching nearby greens and canals and large digital posters displaying the face of the missing student have also been placed around Hull city centre.
