Festive fun times have passed, but it's still dark and cold. As such, it can be a great comfort to spend January planning your next getaway. Let's book some holidays!
Unfortunately for most of us, heaps of cash are not exactly lying about following the decadence of December, so it's not as straight forward as randomly placing your finger on a map of the world and booking flights.
Handily, the nice people at the Post Office have analysed loads of data and compiled a list of the cheapest holiday destinations in 2019.
The 11th annual Post Office Holiday Money Report uses data from tourist boards and tour operators to calculate the average cost of eight holiday staples: a meal for two, a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, a Coca-Cola, a glass of wine, a bottle of water, sun cream and insect repellent.
The numbers are then totted up across 42 cities and resorts to determine the cheapest overall holiday destination, based on this 'World Holiday Costs Barometer' (WHCB)… So when booking a holiday, if you prioritise the price of beer over sun cream or insect repellent, you may want to take a closer look at the figures.
But without further ado, here are the 10 cheapest places to spend your holidays (though it's worth also factoring the cost of getting there, which will vary depending on where you live – obviously):
Bali is known for its stunning beaches. Credit: PA
In at number 10 is every Aussie's holiday spot, Bali in Indonesia, with a WHCB of £67.57 ($86.84). Known for its beautiful beaches, the average beer there will cost you £1.86 ($2.39), and if you're feeling parched you can get a bottle of water for 47p ($0.60).
Paphos, Cyprus, is the ninth cheapest with a WHCB of £63.35 ($81.42).
Popular stag holiday choice, Prague, Czech Republic is ranked at eight, with a beer costing you £1.32 ($1.70).

Tokyo, Japan is a surprise inclusion at number six… it's only 74p ($0.95) for a beer there. Who knew?

In bronze, your cheapest med getaway is the Algarve, Portugal, with a WHCB fractionally less than Cape Town at £48.72 ($62.61).
