Following the news thatGreggswas launching a plant-based version of one of its most popular treats, many people ventured out to hunt down the covetedvegan sausage roll– while others justwhingedabout them.
But loads of people left the shop disappointed, either because their store wasn’t selling them, or because those thatwerestocking them had sold out within what seemed like seconds–yup, turns out the demand forveganscranwas stronger than many of you might like to think, thanks largely to the popularity ofVeganuarythis year, which saw 250,000 go meat and dairy-free for the month.
Well, if you’ve been trying to get your hands on one in vain, we’ve got some good news for you, as the bakery chain has decided to roll the product out toALL ofits shops.
The vegan sausage roll was originally launched on 3 January in 950 branches to gauge customer demand, but following a strong response from shoppers, it will soon be available in all 1,950 stores.
By Friday 8 March, all shops will be stocked up with the infamous vegan snack, with 250 additional shops per week putting the item on sale until it’s eventually available across the nation.
Oh, and if you want to checkwhether or notyour local Greggs will have any yet, you can track them down using the nifty littleVegan Sausage Roll Locator.
Following its release earlier this year, the vegan version of the Greggs sausage roll has proven quite the hit, having been deemed by the company as one of its most successful launches ever.
Sure, there was a fair bit of backlash from some die-hard omnivores who seemed to forget they could still get the meaty version (we’re looking at you,Piers), but the general consensus has thus far been a very good one.
So good, in fact, that people startedflogging theirs on eBay for £12to try and capitalise on that vegan sausage roll shortage hysteria. Clever.
The product – which costs £1 – is designed to mirror some of the classic sausage roll’s features, including 96 layers of light and crisp puff pastry. However, things change when it comes to the sausage, which is made with a ‘bespoke Quorn filling’.
