Fans of Game of Thrones exploded with happiness after HBO finally released the teaser for the upcoming final season.

The teaser-trailer doesn’t offer much in terms of spoilers for the season but it certainly gave us chills.

It shows Jon Snow, Arya and Sansa Stark in the crypts underneath Winterfell where their ancestors have been buried. It’s very dark and moody as the three converge together for the first time in what seems like a lifetime.

But they happen upon three statues that look identical to them before the room has the life sucked out of it and things get cold; which can only mean one thing: White Walkers are heading south.

There was one small Easter Egg in the minute-and-a-half long video and it was hinting very heavily at Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) parents.

As Jon is walking through the crypt, he passes a statue of Lyanna Stark, which is Ned’s sister and Arya and Sansa’s auntie. A small feather is blown out of her stony hands and rests onto the floor while Lyanna’s voice can be heard saying: “You must protect him.”

Now, obsessed fans will remember that Lyanna Stark said those very words when she gave birth to Jon and handed the newborn baby to Ned just before she died.

That was the big reveal from season seven: that Jon Snow, who previously thought he was the bastard son of Ned and a sex worker, was actually the son of Lyanna and Rhaegar Targaryen – meaning he’s the true heir to the Iron Throne.

In the first ever episode of Game of Thrones, King Robert Baratheon goes into the crypts and lays a feather at Lyanna’s grave.

He also mentions to Ned that every night he dreams of killing Rhaegar and despite Mr Stark saying all the Targaryen’s were gone, the King of the Seven Kingdoms says: “Not all of them.”

The second time we see the feather is when Sansa walks through the crypts with Littlefinger. She sees it on the floor and picks it up before Littlefinger arrives. The two talked about Lyanna and how she ended up with Rhaegar.

“Lyanna was already promised to Robert,” he told Sansa, “the last two riders were Barristan Selmy and Rhaegar Targaryen. When Rhaegar won everyone cheered for their prince…until he rode right past his wife, Elia Martell, and all the smiles died.

“He rode past his wife and lay a crown of winter roses in Lyanna’s lap, blue with frost…how many tens of thousands had to die because Rhaegar chose your aunt?”

Sansa had a different version of events in her head but virtually no one in Westeros knew that the two love birds had eloped and Lyanna fell pregnant with Jon.

So now we’ve seen the feather again, but this time it freezes in the final seconds of the teaser, alluding to the idea that the White Walkers are going to try their hardest to kill the heir to the Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones will air on the 15th April on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
