In news that will make you feel very, very old, a 15-year old lad has been named as a substitute for Fulham’s Carabao Cup tie with Millwall tonight.
Harvey Elliott has been tipped to follow in Ryan Sessegnon’s footsteps and has already been linked with Chelsea and Barcelona.
He’s not even on a scholarship nor has he signed a professional deal with the club yet because of FA rules but the youngster has been and in around the first-team environment – training with the main squad in the recent international break.
And tonight, he got another valuable experience, having been a member of the matchday squad for the short trip to The Den.
Born in 2003, two months after Wayne Rooney played his first game for England, Elliott is a right winger who played for the club’s reserves in the EFL Trophy earlier this month.
Here’s the pick of the reaction to his appearance on the Fulham bench:
Aged 15 years and 174 days old, Elliott will become the club’s youngest ever player by quite a distance if he enters the fray.
Matthew Briggs, now playing for Maldon & Tiptree in Non-League, holds that record after making his debut aged 16 years and 65 days against Middlesbrough in 2007.
