Met Office issue severe weather warning as Storm Caroline heads towards Britain bringing 80mph winds

Severe weather warnings have been issued in the UK as Storm Caroline heads towards Britain – bringing gales of up to 80mph.

The storm has only been named by the Met Office this morning as it is set to bring rain and wind overnight on Wednesday.

High winds are expected in the north of Britain and Scotland on Thursday, with the Met Office predicting extremely windy weather throughout the entire day.

The Met Office said: “Gusts of 60-70 mph are expected quite widely, with gusts to 80 mph possible near north facing mainland coasts and across the Isles.

“Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible. Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

“It is likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.”
