The yacht was about 11km from the coast with the Mallorca fire department controlling the rescue after an emergency call at around 1.30am on Monday.

Klitschko and his family were evacuated to Port Adriano, with the 43-year-old telling Bild: “Thanks to the Majorcan fire department and also to our crew on board.

“Everyone did their best to bring the situation under control and get us ashore as quickly as possible.”

He later posted a video on Twitter detailing the incident and sharing footage of the boat after the fire had been extinguished.

The former world heavyweight champion, who last fought against Anthony Joshua in 2017, later flew out of Majorca to Germany to attend the “A Heart for Children” festival.

Klitschko said to local media: “Thanks to the Majorcan fire department and also to our crew on board.

“Everyone did their best to bring the situation under control and get us ashore as quickly as possible.”
