Freeman is set to become the Blades’ first signing of the transfer window, with the deal – which includes add-ons – understood to be worth around £5million.

The former Arsenal youngster has been a revelation at Loftus Road since arriving from Bristol City in January 2017 for a cut-price £350,000.

Freeman has attracted interest from Blackburn, Middlesbrough and Leeds over the past year, and after an impressive 2018/19 campaign Rangers hierarchy were resigned to losing him – with the player keen to have a crack at the top flight.

FREEMAN’S QPR CAREER IN NUMBERS

Appearances – 112

Goals – 15

Assists – 24

Since his debut in February 2017, Luke Freeman was directly involved in more goals for QPR than any other player (39 – 15 goals, 24 assists).

Elsewhere, the Rs are closing in on two further signings – both defenders – which will take their tally up to seven for the summer window so far.

talkSPORT further understands the club want to make at least another two or three additions on top of that, with Massimo Luongo, like Freeman, expected to depart W12 this summer.

Luongo, 26, has established himself as an integral part of the Rangers side, but with only a year left on his current deal and no indication he will sign a new contract, the west London side are ready to cash in on the Australian.

After being hit with a £42m fine last summer for breaking Financial Fair Play rules, Rangers are mindful of meeting EFL regulations and need to continue to cut their wage bill, where possible.

The Championship side announced in May that Alex Baptiste, Jake Bidwell, Jordan Cousins, Joel Lynch and Pawel Wszolek would all be released after their contracts expired.
