Though things aren’t exactly how they expected them to be, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have officially parted ways with the British royal family. Though their exit came after years of turmoil and discussions, no one could have anticipated the coronavirus (COVID-19) and how it’s ravaged the world and the British royal family.
Despite the fact that royal life wasn’t quite right for them, the Sussexes still did a lot of great work during their time within The Firm. Prince Harry has an entire lifetime and legacy of service to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, the crown, the British military, and the public.
Likewise, the Duchess of Sussex brought some much-needed modernity and diversity to the institution that is steeped in whiteness and tradition. Though the Sussexes are moving on, the good work that they did during their time in the royal family will always remain.
Inside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new brand, Archewell
After they were told they could no longer use the name Sussex Royal following their exit from the British royal family, there has been a ton of speculation about how the Sussexes would brand themselves moving forward.
The couple has chosen a new name, Archewell. “Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be,” the Sussexes shared in a statement. “Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action.’ We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon”
According to the trademark paperwork, Archewell could consist of everything from movies to podcasts, clothing to charitable services, and even online seminars, lectures, and retreats.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are no longer updating their Sussex Royal Instagram
On March 31, the duke and duchess shared their final post from their Sussex Royal Instagram account and website. “Though they will remain inactive, both the Instagram account and website will remain in existence online for the foreseeable future,” a spokesperson for the couple stated.
Most people were confused that the pair wouldn’t simply rename their accounts Archewell, but now we know why.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won’t delete their Sussex Royal Instagram
Though they will almost certainly be getting a new Instagram account, the Sussexes still feel it’s important to showcase the work they did as royals. They’ve turned off comments on Sussex Royal. We’re sure when they return to social media, the couple will have a much better approach when it comes to dealing with the trolls and bullies.
“Buckingham Palace or no other royal communications representatives including palace spokespeople or household representatives or royal sources will speak any more on behalf of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” royal expert Dan Wootton said on his talkRADIO show. “Instead they now have this PR company in the US which has previously represented people like Michael Jackson and Harvey Weinstein. They are now representing the couple.”
Perhaps the duo will launch their new Instagram account in time for their son, Archie Harrison’s first birthday on May 6, 2020.
