Iceland is selling Creme Egg cupcakes in the run-up to Easter, and if that isn't enough to get you excited, then there really is no pleasing you.

Sure, we've only just got shut of Christmas and we're all trying to be a bit healthier after spending a month drinking heavily and eating fine cheeses, but let's not kid ourselves. Life is miserable enough without denying yourself the occasional confectionery egg-based treat.

Of course, it won't be Easter until the back end of April, but let's not forget that people started celebrating Christmas around mid-October, so it's a bit rich to complain about this.

There is a downside – because there always is – which is that these aren't exactly cheap. They're going to set you back £2 for two cupcakes, which is a bit steep.

These, however, are no ordinary cupcakes.

Much like their oval-shaped relatives, the classic Creme Egg, they are filled with a delicious fondant surprise that lurks within the belly of the chocolate sponge that makes up the cake itself.

On the top, they've got a load of vanilla buttercream icing that is accompanied by shards of milk chocolate and what can only be described as yellow goo.

As we've already touched upon, if you're trying to stick to a strict fitness regime this January, perhaps these are not the treats that you should be picking up.

They've got a whopping 26.1 grams of sugar in each cake, which is equivalent to around 6.5 teaspoons. Each individual cupcake contains 240 calories, so you're probably best limiting yourself to just one even if you're not on some form of winter diet.

The NHS says that you are only supposed to eat 30 grams of sugar in a day, so it might be worth planning your day around this and not having too much more sugar after that.

OR – and this is just a suggestion – you could enjoy your life and not worry too much about eating a bloody cupcake. Life is too short and it's too bleak at this time of year to be denying yourself small pleasures.

So, settle in with a nice movie, wrap yourself up against the cold, and eat your way through a box of lovely, fancy cupcakes.

You could even imagine that it's Easter already and the nights are a bit longer and the days slightly warmer.

That sounds like a much better idea, doesn't it?
