Deontay Wilder Reveals Tyson Fury Fight Is 'Very, Very Close' To Happening

A mega-fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury is gathering steam, with the WBC heavyweight world champion confident it’s going to happen.

Wilder failed to strike a deal with unified king Anthony Joshua. His camp were negotiating with Eddie Hearn but terms were not agreed.

Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, is now offering the self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ to the unbeaten-American, and a deal is in the works.

The ex-unified world champion confirmed on social media that “deep negotiations” were underway with Wilder, who has now reacted to claims a fight is nearly set in stone.

“I believe 100 per cent that this fight is going to happen and it’s going to get done,” Wilder toldRing TVviaWorld Boxing News.

Wilder added: “We’re very, very close. Very, very close. Closer than Joshua and me could ever get in a lifetime.

“It’s definitely going to happen, there’s no doubt. There’s just a little more work to be done.

“Me and Fury, we talked with each other back and forth; I think he’s a great guy, we have a relationship together, and my team has a relationship with his team.”

Fury has to overcome his bout versus Francesco Pianeta in a few weeks before earning another shot at a world title.

But Warren is hoping to deliver for his fighter.

“Well, actually they’re two competitive and very good fighters but, with due respect to them, we’re actually trying to make the fight with Deontay Wilder,” he toldtalkSPORT.

“First of all we want to see what he looks like on the August 18. Hopefully he will come through it well, but reports from the gym are that he’s looking well.

“Tyson, as he’s said himself, has been talking about Wilder in the last few weeks and it’s a fight I think the British fans would like to see.

“It wouldn’t happen in the autumn, if it happens it will be sometime in November or December.

“That’s where I would like to see him, providing he comes through okay and that’s no disrespect to anybody. He’s the lineal champion. He’s the guy who hasn’t been beaten. He lost his belt outside the ring.

“I’m pretty confident we can make it happen. It takes two to make a deal and if you really want to make a deal you will make it happen.”

Wilder or Fury – who’s everyone backing? Let us know.
