There’s been talk aboutHarry Kane‘struggling’ but what do people expect him to do? Fly? I can’t see any problem with the way he’s playing. He’s scored a couple of goals, is still the main man for Spurs and England and he has great quality.

Kane has been playing a bit deeper with Lucas Moura playing as a striker but if he had an issue with that I’m sure he’d let the manager know. He is a position at the club where he is able to do that.

Well balanced Reds to edge Wembley clash

For all the difficulties of international breaks and early kick-offs, I’m hopeful thatSpurs v Liverpoolwon’t be a low scoring game on Saturday.

Both teams have plenty of internationals so they’re in a similar boat and it might, in fact, be an opportunity for one of the sides to try and catch the other one out with a quick start; to try and set a trap they wouldn’t be expecting.

Liverpool have got off to a great start, winning every game and playing good football. The team looks very balanced and it’s going to be very tough for Tottenham, despite home advantage.

I expect both teams to score as they usually do in this fixture, but I’ll have to edge towards Liverpool to win it.

As a former United man, it pains me to see Liverpool performing so well! I have some great memories of playing against them. One of the early ones is scoring for Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in a 4-2 home win. And then of course there was the hat-trick for Manchester United. Every player has career highlights, but doing that against a great rival was extra sweet.

International breaks are a challenge

Returning to club football after international breaks can be difficult for players. You have spent a few days training in a different way, preparing for games in a different way, and sometimestravelling long distancesso it can mean you’re off balance when you go back with just two or three days before the Premier League games.

It can have an impact on concentration levels during that first game back, especially with sucha short time to prepare. Players do know how to look after themselves, but it’s tough for managers as they need to make decisions on a wide range of factors, not just the game itself.

Early kick-offs weren’t for me

As well as the short preparation time, the Spurs and Liverpool players will also have to cope with the lunchtime kick-off. I never really enjoyed them and I don’t think many players do.What time do you have breakfast? What about lunch? Do you combine them?

Of course, you accept it because that’s modern football, you just need to try and focus on the game but these games can often be slow starting and low on quality, because the playersaren’t fully restedand concentrated.

I used to love playing late in the evening, it’s when I felt at the top of my game and all my powers were there.

United need to learn from Spurs mistakes at Watford

Watford vs Tottenham
Watford vs Tottenham

Tottenham were disappointing at Watford last time out, losing to two set piece goals. Everyone knows Watford are going to be aggressive and physical – you have to make sure you defend properly against it.

Troy Deeney is a striker who’s more than just ‘physical’ – he’s absolutely massive! He pulls defenders around for fun. As the opposing team, you have try and stop him getting chances, most importantly by limiting free kicks and corners.

IfManchester United can do that on Saturday, I can see them winning the game. The Watford crowd will be well up for it after the run they have been on, but United will have a plan and if they can be calm and control the game, it should be enough for three points.

Jose Mourinhohas plenty of physical players at his disposal and they can play direct football when they need to if it gets scrappy, but they have the extra quality which should count on the day.
