Following Manchester United’s shock defeat on penalties to Championship side Derby County in the Carabao Cup last night, we look back at four other occasions, in the last eight years, ‘The Red Devils’ have been left embarrassed.

In 2015, Louis van Gaal’s ‘Red Army’ lost to Middlesbrough on penalties after a bore draw at Old Trafford. Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young and Michael Carrick all failed to convert their spot-kicks resulting in Manchester United crashing out in the fourth round.

It was the third time in four League Cup meetings that United had been knocked out by non-Premier League opposition.

However, the lead didn’t last long as Federico Macheda pulled it level just minutes later. It was Glenn Murray who headed home the winner in extra-time to send Palace through to the semi-finals.
