Paul Pogba’s chances of staying at Manchester United beyond this season look slim right now but the Premier League club will not let him leave unless someone stumps up a world record fee for the midfielder.
Even before the season started the fracture in the relationship between Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho seemed to be widening and as Juventus and Barcelona both were rumoured to want to sign the World Cup winner his departure seemed possible.
United fought off those advances and kept the midfielder and Jose Mourinho even made him captain for the first game of the season against Leicester, and he wore it on two more occasions.
On Saturday though things came apart at the seams as United drew 1-1 with Wolves. Pogba set up United’s goal with a beautiful touch to Fred but he was partially at fault for the equaliser as he lost the ball and failed to track back to recover it.
Then the former Juve man decided to criticise Mourinho’s tactics and claim they were holding United back, that was never going to go down well. On Monday there were reports the manager stripped the player of the armband and told him he would never captain United again.
It now seems that their future together is untenable however, according to the Mirror, United would ‘demand more than £200m’ to sell the 25 year old.

£200 million would equate to around the most expensive transfer of all time, depending on exchange rate as it’s done based on the amount of euros rather than pound sterling.
Neymar currently holds the record. He cost PSG £198 million which at the time was €222 million. With the increase in transfer prices since that deal it makes sense that Pogba could cost more.
The Frenchman’s return to Old Trafford cost the Red Devils €105 million in the summer of 2016 and was a world record at the time.

The former Le Havre youngster would likely be targeted by Juve and Barca should he become available whilst Real Madrid and PSG could also come in for him and be the few teams who could afford his massive fee.
It seems inevitable that at least one of Pogba or Mourinho will have to leave Old Trafford but it could be both of them.
