Mauricio Pochettino Finally Wins Some Silverware For Spurs

Mauricio Pochettino must be fed of hearing that he HAS to win some silverware to be considered any good at his job. So it’ll come as great relief to the Spurs’ boss that he can finally rest easy after winning his first piece of silverware.

It still comes as quite a surprise that Manchester City ‘only’ won two competitions last season. The Premier League was won ridiculously easily and it came after they’d won the EFL Cup for the third time in five years.

Considering their domestic dominance it wasn’t too much of a stretch to imagine them winning the domestic treble but their time in the FA Cup was cut short by Wigan in one of those lovely cupsets we all enjoy.

It’s no surprise that City have started this season in the way they finished last and already picked up silverware in the shape of the Community Shield, meaning they’re already on their way to a potential treble, or possible better.

But if you were expecting City to dominate and win everything then you’re sadly mistaken as it’s actually Spurs who have picked up the second piece of silverware.

What do you mean you don’t know what competitions we’re talking about. It’s the most prestigious competition in all of football; the International Champions Cup!

That’s correct, the tournament made up of friendlies played between Europe’s best sides played almost exclusively nowhere near Europe has come to an end and Mauricio Pochettino’s side have come out on top- they’re basically the best team in Europe, for July.

Spurs officially won the tournament after Inter’s 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid yesterday. Lautaro Martinez’ strike but the Italian’s level on points with Spurs, and and Borussia Dortmund, but the north London side topped the group on goal difference.

It’s the first piece of silverware that Spurs have won since 2008, when Jonathan Woodgate’s extra time winner handed them the League Cup against Chelsea, and Pochettino’s first cup win as a manager.

Spurs fans will be dancing in the streets of London tonight celebrating this monumental occasion.
