Kevin de Bruyne is one of the best players in the world right now and would improve literally any club on the planet but there’s no way he’s leaving anytime soon, unless someone pays his expensive release clause.
There’s every chance that Manchester City could still build a Premier League title winning lead by the time Kevin de Bruyne comes back from injury, but that very much says more about their strength in depth rather than the Belgian.
De Bruyne was injured in training after just two games of the Premier League season and could be out for up to three months but Pep Guardiola has lots of riches to call from.
Without the Belgian in their side City still boast players likes Ilkay Gundogan, David Silva, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden in their ranks. Not many teams could lose a player of De Bruyne’s quality and still be competitive. Then again most just couldn’t lose a player of De Bruyne’s quality.
Any team wanting to buy the former Chelsea player would have to put up a lot of money and in an interview with Universo Valdano manager Pep Guardiola revealed exactly how much, saying:
“He’s an incredible boy. The clause is €250m (£223m). I’m sorry, he’s not for sale. He’s very good. He’s a very dynamic player.”
The Spaniard went on to praise his midfielder, adding,“De Bruyne does everything and everything well, but still has room to grow. I recently met his parents and understood a lot about why he is a fantastic guy.”
Guardiola also spoke about life at the Etihad, saying,“Here [City] I feel very good. Very protected from football. I’m at the club that interests me, with Ferran Soriano, Txiki (Begiristain), who I have known since we were in the reserves. I do not feel judged by a defeat or victory.”
Last season De Bruyne scored eight goals for the Premier League champions and aso came up with 16 assists as the team broke all sorts of records in England.
He now has a couple of months on the sidelines and City will be better for his return, which is always a scary prospect.
