After a night that saw everything from Bodyguard’s Keeley Hawes come back from the dead to Little Mix fans demanding Ed Balls join the group… the Comic Relief: Red Nose Day 2019 grand total is in.
At just-past midnight on Saturday (March 16), hosts Lenny Henry, Clara Amfo and Rob Beckett announced that the charity had raised a massive total of £60,628,353!
The telethon certainly brought the big hitters this year.
Bodyguard, the BBC’s most-watched drama ever, delivered its own Red Nose Day spoof by reuniting Richard Madden’s David Budd with Keeley Hawes’s thought-to-be-dead Julia Montague.
Four Weddings and a Funeral’s Comic Relief sequel gave viewers a truly heartwarming twist that no-one saw coming.
Jennifer Saunders brought an all-star cast with her to parody Mamma Mia once again, but it was her hilarious take on Cher that had most viewers in bits.
And Ed Balls took to the stage with Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and gifted us all with his rendition of the girl group’s hit song ‘Shout Out to My Ex’.
Earlier in the night, Lenny Henry paid a touching tribute to Louis Tomlinson after the One Direction star pulled out of appearing on the show following the sad death of his 18-year-old sister this week.
