Prince Harry’s heartbreaking Meghan Markle dilemma revealed: ‘One disaster to another’ – Express

16 July 2019 NEWS

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married in their spectacular royal wedding last year, and welcomed their new son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor to the Royal Family in May. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have come under fire in recent weeks, particularly as their decision to keep details of baby Archie’s christening private proved to be very unpopular. However,Harry has a history of struggling with his royal role, and trying to find privacy, that seems to be continuing with his new married life with Meghan and Archie.

Pod Save the Queen” is hosted by Ann Gripper, and features the Daily Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell Myers.

Mr Myers said: “Certainly,Harry would like to be more like Zara and Mike[Tindall], and have that freedom.

“But unfortunately he is related to the heir, and he is going to be the son of the future King.

“The problem is, you can’t have one foot in and one foot out, and this is the issue that’s being debated at the moment.”

The Duke of Sussex has a history of wanting to stay out of the royal spotlight, well before he met his future bride in 2016.

Speaking in 2008, when he was in Afghanistan as an officer in the Army, Harry said: “I don’t want to sit around in Windsor.

“But I generally don’t like England that much and, you know, it’s nice to be away from all the press and the papers.”

In 2017, Harry confessed that his ten-year career in the Army was an “escape” from royal life, and that he had considered giving up his title.

The prince told the Mail on Sunday that the time he spent in the Army – when he was “just Harry” – was “the best escape I’ve ever had”.

He said: “I felt I wanted out [of the Royal Family] but then decided to stay in and work out a role for myself.”

However, his grandmother the Queen intervened and persuaded Harry not to give up his royal duties.

The debate has been sparked again with a series of PR blunders in recent weeks.

Meghan and Harry decided to keep their son’s christening earlier this smooth private – however the news came days after it was revealed that their new family home had been refurbished with over £2million from the Sovereign Grant.

Then, last week, the Duchess of Sussex’s protection officers warned members of the public against taking photographs when Meghan was at Wimbledon, as she was attending in a “private capacity”.

However, royal editor Mr Myers gave his opinion that the blunders arise form the royal pair not following their PR briefs from the Palace.

He continued: “It seems like they’re careering from one disaster to another.

“People I’m speaking to who are close to the Sussexes and close to the household are saying that they just don’t take advice.

“That is major problem for them.”

He said: “In terms of the goodwill towards them, they don’t want to be extinguishing it every single time there’s an event.”

“I’m afraid they need to really realise where they are in the world, and you can’t switch [privacy] on and off when you want.”
