The Original 'Gladiators' Is 26 Years Old

It was, and still is, one of the most iconic television program of all time.

“AND tonight folks, Barry from Stockport has the misfortune of facing the undisputed bad man of Gladiators in a game of Pyramid. THE WOLF MAN.”

The likes of Wolf, Hunter, Rhino, Lightning and Shadow, among others, became household names in the 90’s, giving the TV show Gladiators uncharted success for over 10 years.

And who could forget referee John Anderson, the man who could somehow scream “CONTENDERS READY! GLADIATORS READY!” at the top of his lungs without fainting.

Contestants from all over the country tried to defeat some of the most athletic characters on television at the time, including one of the names mentioned above.

The Wolf Man, real name Michael Van Wijk, became one of the most recognised faces on television during the 90’s.

His ‘Mr Nasty’ persona was met by constant booing and chants of ‘another one bites the dust’ – but really, everyone loved his unforgettable antics.

Can you believe this show is 26 years old?

Wolf’ still remains in incredible shape at the 66, proudlyshowing of his impressive physique on Instagram

Happy birthday, Gladiators!
