Broadcast of ‘Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru. Season 2’ Postponed to Fall 2026

The official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru. (The Detective Is Already Dead) anime series announced on Sunday that the second season will be postponed to October 2026 due to production circumstances. The second season was scheduled to premiere in July 2026.

Manabu Kurihara (Tokyo Ghoul animation director) is helming the second season at ENGI. Deko Akao (Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou.) is handling the series composition and Yousuke Itou (Ousama Game The Animation) is designing the characters.

Produced by ENGI, the first season aired in 12 episodes in Summer 2021. Crunchyroll streamed the anime with subtitles and dubs in multiple languages.

The anime adapts Nigojuu‘s mystery romance novel which began on Kakoyomu platform in October 2019. Kadokawa began publishing the novel under its MF Bunko J imprint with illustrations by Umibouzu in November that year and published the 13th volume in July 2025. Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru. has over 1 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Mugiko began drawing a manga adaptation in Comic Alive magazine in May 2020. Kadokawa published the sixth and final volume in October 2023.

Yen Press licensed the light novel and manga adaptation in English in January 2020 and April 2021, respectively and published the 11th novel volume on February 10, with the 12th volume planned for an August 11 release. The sixth manga volume went-on-sale in December 2024.
