Nu metal band Drowning Pool cancels their South American tour, with the tour organizer citing low ticket sales, but the band blames “logistics.”
Dallas-based nu-metal band Drowning Pool has canceled their South American tour due to low ticket sales, according to the tour organizer. But the band simply blames “logistics.”
The band was preparing to launch its first-ever run of shows in South America on Wednesday, May 20, in Bogota, Colombia. It was scheduled to run through May 31, with a show in Coritiba, Brazil. But the night before the tour was due to begin, the whole thing was canceled.
“The decision was made jointly by all local promoters involved due to low ticket sales recorded in all cities on the tour,” reads a statement written in Spanish from the tour organizers. “Customers who have already purchased tickets must request a refund directly from the company responsible for the ticket sales in their respective city. For more information and specific guidance regarding the refund process, please contact the local promoter.”
Just a few days prior, guitarist CJ Pierce appeared on the “Teaser Talk” podcast, where he said the tour was being “put on hold.” This, he said, was because “all the logistics weren’t put together for us to get there in time.”
“There’s a lot of […] red tape and stuff like that because we didn’t meet the deadline for it,” he said. “So, I’m hoping to go back. Love South America. We really want to play there. I want to go so bad. But yeah, that’s going to be it.”
“It’s very rare that you see something come up on your calendar that you haven’t done before,” added frontman Ryan McCombs. “There [were] several countries there that we had never—I know I’d never been to before. So I was really looking forward to that. So we’re definitely pushing towards that.”
However, Drowning Pool is far from the only act to have called off shows or entire tours in recent weeks due to low ticket sales. Just this week, actor and singer-songwriter Kiefer Sutherland canceled the U.S. leg of his tour due to “very low ticket sales.” The Pussycat Dolls also called off their North American tour earlier this month, also citing low ticket sales.
Other artists to have recently canceled dates, although without explicitly citing low ticket sales, include Neil Young, Post Malone and Jelly Roll, and Zayn Malik.
