Highly Suspicious Dragon’s Dogma 2 Update Adds to Heavily Rumoured DLC Hype

Heartbeats

It’s all kicking off for fans of Dragon’s Dogma 2 lately, as longstanding dreams of a DLC announcement are seemingly becoming more and more of a reality.

Just overnight, players picked up on a huge backend update to the game on Steam.

Now, generally speaking, Dragon’s Dogma fans have learned not to put too much stock into these developer-level adjustments; there have been plenty of them over the last couple of years, and they’ve mostly led to nothing of note.

But as alluded, this change was massive in terms of file size, actually eclipsing the title itself. Even more suspicious is that evidence of the update was scrubbed not long after SteamDB had tracked it.

To be clear, this could have just been some kind of mistake on Capcom’s part, but these backend updates have been raising eyebrows for a while now — even the game’s character creation system was tweaked at some point without being featured in any kind of publicly released patch.

In truth, we probably wouldn’t be covering this if it wasn’t for the recent tease from Capcom itself. In case you missed it, the developer celebrated the second anniversary of Dragon’s Dogma 2 by posting an image of all the title’s characters attending a party.

Players immediately spotted a number of strange details within the picture, including a mysterious, never-before-seen NPC standing with his back turned, and a letter that references the “north” — the long-rumoured setting of the RPG’s potential expansion.

The bottom line here is that something’s going on — either that, or Capcom’s taking its attempts at trolling Dragon’s Dogma players to insane new levels.

There are even whispers that the DLC could show up during this week’s rumoured State of Play broadcast, but we need to keep reminding ourselves that Capcom’s schedule is pretty busy right now.

It’s already released three highly rated games this year, it’s got Monster Hunter Wilds’ expansion in the works, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword is surely getting a release date soon.

As always, we’re just going to have to wait and see what happens. But do you believe in this Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC? Bring your pawns to the comments section below.

A little too much, some might say.
