Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have welcomed a new family member after adopting a rescue dog named Javi.
What Happened
The couple announced the adoption during an episode of Live With Kelly and Mark.
They revealed they adopted Javi the day before, during Adopt a Dog Week.
Javi, originally named Lucas by Pet ResQ Inc., is currently undergoing medical tests before moving into their home.
Key Facts
- Javi was adopted from a rescue organization, Pet ResQ Inc.
- He was named Lucas before being adopted by the couple.
- He is currently in medical evaluation and has not yet moved into the home.
- His name was changed to Javi after adoption.
- He resembles the couple’s late dog, Chewie, who died last year at age 17.
Emotional Connection
Kelly Ripa said she felt a strong emotional link between Javi and her late dog Chewie.
She told Mark: My beloved dog, who I will never get over and mourn for the rest of my life, sent this little dog here.
Ripa noted that Javi came into their lives the same way Lena did six years ago—during a Live segment about rescue dogs.
She said: I really decided I was only going to get a dog—and I didn’t really care about the breed—but I wanted a dog that looked exactly like Lena.
Family Reactions
Mark Consuelos said their existing dog, Lena, initially reacted with fear during their first meeting.
He described the interaction as a ‘chemistry test’ and said Lena did not bark at Javi.
Consuelos believes the two dogs will become ‘great buddies’ and are likely to coexist well.
