Around 20 commercial vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the U.S. military over the past 24 hours, in addition to several ships sailing without U.S. coordination, Axios reported Sunday, citing a U.S. official.



CENTCOM says U.S. launches new strikes on Iran over attacks on ships
U.S. Central Command said its forces began launching additional strikes against Iran at 5 P.M. ET on Sunday to further degrade Tehran’s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM said President Donald Trump ordered the strikes to hold Iranian forces accountable.

Here are Sunday’s updates:
■ U.S. and Iranian forces exchanged heavy missile and drone assaults, with Tehran targeting U.S. facilities in states across the Gulf on Sunday and saying it had again closed the vital Strait of Hormuz.
■ Israel’s governing coalition announced that the upcoming election will be held on October 27, 2026 – the last possible date for holding an election, meaning the government will have served out a full term.
■ Teenage activists from the group “Mesarvot,” an advocacy group that supports conscientious objectors, unfurled a giant banner reading “We hereby refuse to enlist” in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square, while a high school in central Israel summoned a student and her parents to a disciplinary meeting after she gave out leaflets calling to refuse military service.
■ Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna of California recalled on NBC’s Meet the Press the incident on Wednesday of being blocked by armed settlers in the West Bank and detained by the IDF, and said the “IDF is lying.”
■ Israeli attacks killed at least six people in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, including a 9-year-old girl, Palestinian health officials said.
■ U.S. Central Command announced that the Strait of Hormuz is “open to all vessels seeking to lawfully transit the international waterway” following U.S. strikes on coastal Iranian bases.
■ President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu eulogized the late Senator Lindsey Graham on NBC’s Meet the Press, calling him “one of Israel’s greatest friends.”
■ French anti-terrorism prosecutors have launched an investigation after weapons were discovered in a vehicle near a synagogue in a Paris suburb, a statement from the prosecutor’s office said on Sunday.

ADL takes out paid advertisement against former Democratic candidate Graham Platner
The Anti-Defamation League on Sunday took out full-page advertisements in a Maine newspaper days after Graham Platner withdrew from the state’s Senate race, with a large image of his Nazi-associated skull and crossbones tattoo, as the organization insisted that the tattoo itself should have been enough to disqualify him as a candidate.


Platner, who won the Democratic primary for Maine’s Senate race on a campaign centered on progressive policies and criticism of Israel and AIPAC, formally withdrew on Friday following several reports detailing allegations of sexual assault against women.
UN Secretary General condemns U.S.-Iran escalations, calls for return to diplomacy
U.S. Secretary-General António Guterres condemned U.S. and and Iranian attacks and called on Washington and Tehran to “urgently resume negotiations and to address outstanding issues through diplomacy.”
I am deeply concerned by the serious escalation & renewed military confrontations in the Gulf, including the Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, the attacks by the US on Iran, and the attacks by Iran on targets in the neighboring countries.

IDF says it continues to operate in Venezuela, helped develop country’s national earthquake recovery plan
The IDF says an Israeli expert emergency response delegation has been operating in Venezuela following its deadly earthquake, “conducting structural classification and assessing the stability of buildings to enable the safe continuation of search, rescue, and recovery efforts.”
According to the IDF, Israel’s Home Front Command experts helped develop Venezuela’s national earthquake recovery plan, which was approved by the president Venezuela, the infrastructure minister, and the local team managing the project.
