In a competitive situation, Netflix has greenlit the YA romance series “Sid & Zoey.”
The show hails from creator Jon Kasdan and writer John Shiban. Both also serve as executive producers and co-showrunners. Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Bad Robot also executive produce. Netflix has given the show an eight-episode order.
The logline for the show states:
“Sid, a seductive, sophisticated, and amoral teenager from New York, is sent to live with a police chief and his family in the idyllic Mississippi town where his mother grew up. The family includes the chief’s sharp-witted, punk-rock daughter, Zoey. Resisting their mutual attraction, Sid and Zoey find themselves drawn into a dark, hidden world beneath the town’s picture-postcard facade — and a supernatural mystery that may well get them killed if they don’t kill each other first.”

Along with Kasdan and Shiban, J.J. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich executive produce for Bad Robot alongside James Wan and Rob Hackett for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
Netflix has been making a concerted push into the YA space, building on the success of series like “Wednesday,” “Ginny & Georgia,” and “My Life With the Walter Boys.” Upcoming YA shows at the streamer include “The Sticks,” “The Body,” “Poser,” “Crew Girl,” and “Minimum Wage.”
Kasdan most recently developed the Disney+ series followup to “Willow.” He has also worked on shows like “Dawson’s Creek” and “Freaks & Geeks,” as well as films like “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and “The First Time.” Shiban previously worked on the hit Netflix crime drama “Ozark” in addition to shows like “Law & Order: Organized Crime” (on which he was showrunner), “Supernatural,” “The Vampire Diaries,” and “Breaking Bad.”
