New Wind Warnings for Scotland
A yellow wind warning covers the south-west of Scotland.
A second yellow warning covers most of Scotland, parts of northern England, and Northern Ireland. It runs from 03:00 to 21:00 on Tuesday.
Expected Conditions
Coastal areas in the south-west face gusts up to 65mph (105km/h). These winds will hit on Monday evening and into the morning.
Heavy rain is expected in some areas. This increases flood and structural risks.
Large waves are likely in the Solway Firth and Firth of Clyde. These areas face strong winds and volatile conditions.
Aftermath of Storm Boelo
Storm Boelo brought wind gusts up to 85mph (137km/h). It caused widespread power outages and damage.
A 60-year-old man died after being struck by a falling tree near Mid Kelton, Dumfries and Galloway, on Sunday.
Power Restoration Efforts
Scottish and Southern Energy Networks (SSEN) is reconnecting power for about 15,000 homes in northern Scotland.
Scottish Power Energy Networks (Spen) says nearly all of its 50,000 affected customers in Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway will have power by 02:00 on Tuesday.
Almost 100,000 homes had power restored over the weekend. Recovery is progressing steadily.
Transport Disruptions
ScotRail says most services are running normally. But speed restrictions remain until 16:00 on Tuesday.
Routes include Glasgow Queen Street to Oban/Mallaig, Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, and Aberdeen to Inverness.
Speed limits are due to heavy rain and track instability.
Ferry Services at Risk
CalMac warns many services may be disrupted or cancelled. Passengers must check its website for updates.
NorthLink Ferries says there’s a possibility of disruption until Thursday. Services may not resume with certainty.
Education Closures
All schools and nurseries in the Western Isles will stay closed until at least Wednesday.
Ellon Academy remained closed on Tuesday after storm damage.
Twelve primary schools and nine nurseries across the Highlands were closed due to power loss or damage.
Flood Risks and Preparedness
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has issued an amber flood risk for northern and western Scotland, Caithness, and Sutherland.
Flood gates were closed on the Caol and Lochyside scheme near Fort William. This was after a Sepa warning.
Official Responses
Police Scotland says disruption remains high. The amber warning was lifted, but issues like fallen trees and damaged infrastructure persist.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Sutherland said disruption will likely extend beyond the warning period.
Government Guidance
Shirley-Anne Somerville, Social Justice and Housing Secretary, said the conditions are prolonged and challenging.
She urged councils to review emergency plans. Households should take steps to protect themselves and neighbours.
Resilience starts at home. Checking on others and securing properties are key actions.
This storm is not yet named. The next named storm in the 2026/2027 season is Chloe.
While not as severe as Storm Boelo or Storm Austen, officials stress vigilance and preparedness.
