NFL reviewing Rashod Bateman’s arrest after Ravens receiver was in alleged family violence incident

Following reports on Friday of Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman’s June arrest, the NFL is launching its own investigation into the matter.

“The club has been in contact with the league regarding the matter, which is under review of the personal conduct policy,” chief NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said, according to a Friday ESPN report.

If the NFL finds that Bateman violated the policy, he would serve an unpaid suspension of six games.

Bateman, 26, was arrested on June 3 in a domestic incident during which authorities say he smashed the windshield and driver’s side window of the car of the alleged victim, according to court records obtained by TMZ.

The couple’s 3-month-old child was also in the car, and the mother suffered cuts to her face from the broken glass.

The Ravens wideout is facing charges of family violence battery, reckless conduct, and criminal damage to property in the first degree, which is a felony.

“We are aware of the situation involving Rashod and have been in direct communication with him,” the Ravens said in a statement. “We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process.

“As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment.”

According to Bateman’s attorneys, he surrendered to the Walton County Sheriff later that same day.

“It is unfortunate that a personal family situation has been taken completely out of context for sensational reasons,” Bateman’s attorney Jordan Siev said in a statement. “We will let the court process play out, and the facts will come out at that time.”

Bateman was not present for Baltimore’s voluntary offseason workouts in May and June because of “some personal things,” according to Ravens defensive coordinator Declan Doyle at the time, but it’s unclear if his absence was directly related to his arrest.

Since being drafted by the Ravens with the No. 27 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, Bateman has suffered multiple injuries that have held him to just 64 games in five seasons.

During his time in the league, Bateman has recorded 2,147 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.
