Xbox Fans Share Their ‘Birthday Gift’ Point Rewards Following Last Week’s New Feature

“Little confused ngl lol”

Last week, you may recall that we highlighted a new birthday gift addition for the Xbox Rewards program that had been officially released on the Monday (April 20th), with one of the lead designers confirming it was a brand-new feature.

Well, throughout the course of today, we’ve been bumping into a few examples of these Xbox “birthday gift” rewards that have been showing up unexpectedly in some cases, with players being rewarded even though their birthdays were quite some time ago!

The rewards seem to be anything from a few hundred Microsoft Rewards points to a few thousand, and Xbox employee Brenna Duffitt has since clarified that the birthday gift is solely based on making purchases on the Microsoft Store during your birthday week — you get 2x the Rewards points for any game or add-on you buy, and you can claim those points the following week.

Here are some examples of what we’ve been coming across online so far:

As you can see, there’s a lot of confusion here about why Xbox users are getting birthday gifts even though their birthdays were ages ago, but we assume it’s because they’re being backdated based on purchases at the time.

In other words, if you bought anything on the Xbox / Microsoft Store during your birthday week over the past 12 months, you might have a gift waiting for you! It’s worth checking, anyway — go to the Xbox Rewards Hub on your console (by pressing the Xbox guide button, scrolling right to your profile icon, selecting your profile and then choosing “My Rewards”), see if there are any points waiting to be redeemed, and check if they’re classed as a “birthday gift”.

We’re interested to hear if you’ve received anything, as it seems to be quite a mixed bag out there. Was it intentional to give players their birthday gift way after the fact? Who knows… but it’s clearly happening in some cases.
