Wyndham Clark is absolutely dominating at Shinnecock Hills.
On a day in which only two players went under par, Clark somehow managed to push his lead to a ridiculous six strokes after the third round of the U.S. Open on Saturday. He carded a even-par 70 to build his advantage and secure a spot in the final group.

Scottie Scheffler and Emiliano Grillo were the only golfers to finish in the red on Saturday. Scheffler posted a 1-under 69, which got him at 1-under for the tournament and in a tie for second. And it very easily could have been one better had Scheffler not missed a short 3-foot birdie putt at 18. Regardless, he’ll take it, especially after a bogey-bogey start to his round.
But so far, Clark has not retreated. He’s grinded his way around Shinnecock and drained just about everything inside of eight feet to maintain his comfortable lead. He even made an eagle at the 16th after landing his approach at the par-5 right next to the cup.
If Clark can pull off the win, it’d mark his second U.S. Open victory after the one he claimed in Los Angeles in 2023. He won on the PGA Tour last month at The CJ Cup, too, and hasn’t finished worse than T11 since.

Only three players have ever finished under par at the previous five U.S. Opens held at Shinnecock Hills, and none lower than 4-under. Clark is already in historic territory. And so far, nobody has been able to come close to catching him.
Clark and Scheffler will go off in the final group on Sunday afternoon. We’ll see if he can hold on.

Scottie Scheffler will be in the final pairing with Wyndham Clark tomorrow afternoon. It’s both Father’s Day and Scheffler’s birthday.
But if Scheffler is going to make this interesting, he’ll have to fight back from a six-shot hole. That’s not going to be easy.

Wyndham Clark’s round is officially over. While he missed a par save at the 18th, which would have made him one of just three to post a round under par today, it doesn’t matter.
The even-par 70 will give him a SEVEN shot advantage entering the final round.

The eagle will be what people talk about, but the par putts are why Wyndham Clark has a 7-shot lead. He drained another tester at 17 — from four feet — and he’s got one hole to play.

First eagle at 16 belongs to Wyndham Clark … and now the lead is 7. Dagger?

Scottie Scheffler had the shot of the day into 16 when he putt it to 11 feet for eagle (only to miss). Clark just did him even better, knocking his approach at the 604-yard par 5 to … 4 feet. He’s got a real chance at -8 and a 7-shot lead.

It’s a fight to get to the finish at this point, with player after player missing birdie putt after birdie putt. Xander Schauffele at 16, Sam Stevens at 17, both had shots to go lower, but could not capitalize.

After completing save after save, Wyndham Clark was due for a miss. But a bogey at the 15th won’t hurt him much at this point.
He’s at 6-under now, still five shots clear of the field.

Now that’s how you end your round. Sahith Theegala just stuck his approach at the 18th a few inches from the cup to set up an easy birdie.
He went E on the day with 16 pars, and is now T2 with Scheffler and Stevens.

It looks way too easy out there for Wyndham Clark right now. This man is locked in on a day where just about everyone is struggling at Shinnecock.
He sank the putt, and the lead is now six.

Wyndham Clark went from the deep grass on the right at No. 13 to the greenside bunker. Yet he still managed to go up-and-down from the sand to save his par.
And, with Tom Kim dropping back, his lead is now five.

Now it’s Tom Kim’s turn to jump into solo second. He’s turned a rough start around, and is now just 1-over on the day and four back from Clark.

That’s another bad miss from Sam Stevens. He missed an easy par putt at the 12th, and is now down to 1-under.
Wyndham Clark’s lead is now five.

What a round for Scottie Scheffler. He just stuck his approach at the 18th close, but couldn’t get the birdie to fall and sent the putt right.
He posted a 1-under 69 today, and is one of just two golfers on the course who finished under par today.
He’s now T3 at 1-under, five back from Wyndham Clark.

The key to winning this tournament is going to be who can make the testy par putts, and so far Wyndham Clark is passing that test.
While everyone else is missing from 6-8, Clark is rock solid, and just drained another at 10 — this one circling the entire hole before it went it. He’ll take it and head to 11 with a 4-shot lead … Sam Stevens is going the wrong way.

He drove it in the trap, pitched out to 8 feet, but couldn’t drop the par putt at 17. It’s a bogey for Scheffler, he’s back to -1.

Drive in the rough, recover in a trap, sand shot over the green … double bogey for Xander Schauffele at 10. He’s back to even par.

There have been zero eagles all week at 16 … Scottie Scheffler just burned the edge for the first. Still it’s a birdie for Scheffler — his third straight — and he’s -2, in a tie for third.
-
Jay Hart
From 274 yards out at the par 5 16th, Scheffler absolutely drilled a fairway metal to 13 feet in what is the shot of the round so far. That fired him up once again coming off the back-to-back birdies. Can he drain the eagle?

An hour ago, Scottie Scheffler’s chance to win was around 2%. It’s now up to 14%, second to only Wyndham Clark (39%), per DataGolf.

It’s a bogey for Clark at 8, though he nearly drained a 45-footer for par. He’s back to -6.
