Michael Trucco, a veteran actor with over 30 years in television, maintains a strong physique at age 56. His fitness journey began in high school, where he played football and wrestled, though not with full commitment.
Early Exposure to Fitness
Trucco says his early sports experiences introduced him to structured workouts, even if he wasn’t fully engaged. These early sessions laid the foundation for a lifelong interest in physical activity.
He grew over 6 feet tall during his sophomore year and credits weight training with helping reshape his body and boosting his confidence.
Recovery from a Serious Injury
In 2007, Trucco was involved in a serious car accident that resulted in four fractured cervical vertebrae and required spinal fusion surgery. Despite the trauma, he made a full recovery and now prioritizes physical health as part of his daily life.
Current Home Workout Routine
Trucco conducts most of his training at home, using a setup in his garage. It includes a Peloton bike, dumbbells, resistance bands, and a universal cable machine.
His primary focus is on cycling and strength programs. He has explored many Peloton classes and uses a range of instructors to keep workouts varied and engaging.
MadMuscles App Routine
Trucco also uses the MadMuscles app, which offers structured full-body workouts. One recent session lasted 39 minutes and included a super set of six exercises:
- 20 squats
- 1 minute plank
- 1 minute Superman pose
- 40 reverse crunches
- 24 shoulder tap push-ups
- 20 short crunches
The routine is repeated four times. Trucco describes it as intense but effective, emphasizing consistency over perfection.

Physical Activity Beyond the Gym
Trucco enjoys outdoor movement, especially in Vancouver, British Columbia. He walks along the seawall in Coal Harbor or False Creek and visits Stanley Park.
He keeps a bicycle at a friend’s house to ride during pleasant weather. He says the city offers a clear mental clarity when he spends time outdoors.
On-Screen Fitness Challenges
For his role in the 2018 film Hunter Killer, Trucco undertook a bootcamp-style routine to prepare for a U.S. Navy SEAL character. He recalls being ‘never more ripped’ during that period.
For the Netflix thriller Poser, he had to hit a golf ball into the air. Though not a golfer, he practiced at a driving range and successfully executed the shot, avoiding a public embarrassment.
He credits his skills to preparation and practice, not innate talent.
Key Advice for Midlife Fitness
Trucco advises those over 50 to set realistic expectations and be kind to themselves. Perfection is not necessary. Feeling good about oneself is the real goal.
His approach blends discipline with sustainability, making fitness a lifestyle rather than a chore.
