Jalen Brunson’s Trainer Uses ‘The Wemby’ to Prepare for Victor Wembanyama

There’s a massive height disparity between the two best players in the 2026 NBA Finals.

The New York Knicks are led by superstar point guard Jalen Brunson, who’s listed as a generous 6-foot-2. On the other end of the court is San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, who’s listed as a not-so-generous 7-foot-4.

In addition to his incredible height, Wembanyama also has an 8-foot wingspan. His ability to affect shots at the rim is unmatched, resulting in his unanimous NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors this past season.

Brunson’s trainer, Dave Williams, prepared the All-Star point guard to go up against Wembanyama with a tool he calls “The Wemby.”

“I use what we call ‘the Wemby’ — it’s a black handle to help me contest shots better, since I’m only 5-foot-9. Then he has to shoot over that with a hand in his face,” Williams said, via NBA insider Mark Medina.

Brunson scored a game-high 30 points in Wednesday night’s Game 1 victory over the Spurs. 13 of those points came in the fourth quarter as he secured a 105-95 victory at San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center. New York finished the game on an 11-0 run, extending their postseason win streak to 12 games.

Wembanyama finished the game with 26 points and 12 rebounds, but struggled with his efficiency from the field.
