A very lucky woman from Pennsylvania has won a life-changing $1.5 million top prize from one of the Pennsylvania Lottery’s scratch-off games. The lucky woman said she plans to use her newfound fortune to purchase a new home.
The Woman Won $1.5M on Her Second Super Star Ticket
Rita Franczyk, 86, won her life-changing seven-figure prize from a ticket she bought while on a routine stop for coffee, milk, and prescriptions. She admitted that she regularly buys $5 scratch-off tickets, but one day decided to change things a bit and get a $30 $1,500,000 Super Star one because she liked how it looked. The ticket immediately netted her $50, so she decided to buy another one during one of her later visits to the store. To her surprise, the second ticket resulted in an unforgettable $1.5 million windfall.
For reference, both tickets were sold at Giant Eagle, 41 Towne Center Drive, Allegheny Township, a shop that Franczyk frequents. The store is set to receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
That second ticket turned out to be the big winner! I called my daughter right way and said, ‘According to the store, I’m a millionaire!’

Her daughter didn’t believe her at first and needed some convincing before the realization set in.
Franczyk, said that a burst pipe caused her and her daughter to temporarily move from her apartment. Because of that, Franczyk plans to use her newfound fortune to purchase a new home.
The Lottery Can Truly Change Lives
Franczyk is a creative person, who has previously worked as interior designer and modeler for a bridal shop. In addition to that, she loves to visit local festivals and paint children’s faces, allowing them to express themselves.
Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne congratulated Franczyk on her win and said that her luck is a “wonderful reminder” of the lottery’s power to change lives. Browne added that ticket sales also directly support various programs for older residents.
Drew Svitko, executive director of the PA Lottery, was similarly pleased and extended “heartfelt congratulations” to Rita.
When our players play, they give back to the seniors in their communities because Lottery’s sole mission is to benefit older Pennsylvanians. We also couldn’t fulfill our mission without our retail partners like Giant Eagle.

Giant Eagle representatives added that they hope to continue their productive partnership with the lottery.
