Uncomfortable Moment with Kate Scott
Scott introduced the Socrates Award, which honors humanitarian efforts by footballers.
Henry interrupted her, correcting her pronunciation of the name.
He said: ‘What do you mean Socrates? We don’t have any philosophers here, it’s ‘Soc-ra-tes’.
Scott repeated the pronunciation and joked: ‘Excuse my pronunciation, everybody. Trust Thierry to get it right.’
Henry responded: ‘Yes, Doctor Socrates, we’re not going to debate here.’
Expert Criticises Henry’s Conduct
Scottish author Andrew Downie, who wrote the book ‘Doctor Socrates: Footballer, Philosopher, Legend’, criticised Henry.
He said: ‘Thierry Henry is rude and incorrect. She pronounced it properly. I know, I wrote a whole book about the man.’
Henry Questions Lamine Yamal’s Motivation
When Lamine Yamal collected the Young Talent of the Year award for the third year, Henry made a pointed comment.
He asked: ‘It’s your third one right? But is it the one you really wanted to win?’
The comment left Yamal in an awkward position on stage.
Final Ballon d’Or Results
