Over the weekend news broke that Viktor Hovland, a previous winner of the Memorial Tournament, was withdrawing from the iconic tournament, but he’s not the only one.
On Tuesday, June 2, the PGA Tour’s communications department announced Jake Knapp withdrew from the tournament. He’ll be replaced by Sudarshan Yellamaraju in the tournament which tees off on Thursday, June 4.
Because he withdrew from the Memorial Tournament before teeing off, he doesn’t have to give a reason for his withdrawal. Knapp hasn’t played since he tied for 74th out of 82 players at the RBC Heritage, his second-worse showing in a tournament this year.

In the weeks since suffering a strained thumb he has been forced to pull out of six straight events – including two $20 million signature events and the PGA Championship.
Knapp started the season as one the hottest golfers on the planet, finishing inside the top 12 in six of seven tournaments while missing the cut in the other. In late April he took to social media to share swing videos, where he doesn’t appear to be hampered by an injury.
In Knapp’s most recent, and only, appearance at the Memorial Tournament, in 2024, he missed the cut after posting a score of 6-over.
