Trump Rates New Iran Peace Offer a Solid ‘Maybe’

Another day, another possible deal with the mullahs: It seems there’s a new peace offer for Iran on the table, and now the Trump administration is awaiting their reply. Details are not forthcoming, as of yet, nor should we expect too much in that respect; this is, after all, an ongoing negotiation. But President Trump, on Saturday, said that the proposed deal was a “solid 50-50.

President Trump said it was a “solid 50/50” Saturday whether he could forge a peace agreement with Iran and would likely decide by May 24 whether to resume the war and “blow them to kingdom come.”

Trump made the comments as he prepared to meet negotiators Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner to talk over Iran’s latest response to the US peace proposal, Axios reported.

Negotiators from Pakistan and Qatar visited Tehran on Friday in hopes of reaching an agreement.

The president said there was a “draft” of an agreement that he had reviewed, but wouldn’t reveal whether he had approved it, he told CBS News.

“They’re getting a lot closer,” he said.

That sounds encouraging, if only cautiously so. The Gulf states certainly have the incentive to see this thing ended; no matter what differences they may have with Iran, they are dependent on the Strait of Hormuz for most of their commerce, and the Strait hasn’t exactly been the best place to run multi-million dollar tankers and cargo ships for the last few weeks. The various nations of the Gulf are doubtless, above all, to get that oil flowing again.

But Iran hasn’t exactly been forthcoming in these talks; things have fallen apart at the last minute before, and may well do so again. Worse, there are no indications that Iranian operatives may be planning attacks within the United States.

Terrifying Report: Iranian Backed Terrorist Planned to Target Ivanka Trump, Had Blueprint of Her House

Here’s the thing that Iran apparently hasn’t yet absorbed: America still holds all the cards here. Iran has nothing left to negotiate with, other than making itself a nuisance in the Strait of Hormuz, that is, until active hostilities begin again; then, expect American F-16s and A-10s to go hunting Iranian speedboats in the Strait, and even that nuisance will be abated.

Still, a deal now may be at least a reprieve. Fox News Chief Foreign Correspondent Trey Yingst also presented some encouraging information:

UPDATE: President Trump is expected to hold a call with regional countries on the situation with Iran. Leaders from nations including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and Pakistan will join the call, a regional official told Fox News.

Presumably, President Trump’s one overriding condition – no nuclear weapons – still applies. There are a lot of people, many of them in Iran, who would love to see the end of the theocratic regime as well, but that’s something that the Iranian people will have to take care of themselves; although a good portion of the road to a modern Iran would seem to have been plowed by American and Israeli explosives. We’ll see.

This is a fast-developing situation. Stay tuned.

Update [3:22 p.m.]: Yingst just shared an update on the call:

NEW:

“The call was very positive. Good progress is being made,” a regional diplomat told Fox News. “Regional leaders were supportive of the progress and of the breakthrough President Trump achieved with the talks.”

Editor’s Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
