It’s a tight battle for the Governor’s race in California.
One of Democrat Katie Porter’s problems is that she’s known for news stories about tantrums. She’s hit the news multiple times for her reported temper, from allegedly pouring mashed potatoes on the head of her ex-husband to yelling at a staffer during a video call to “get out of my f**king shot.”

Now, Porter has just released an ad that she’s hoping will remake her image. She’s just like you; she “knows what you’re going through” because she also pushes a shopping cart, has an old car, and hates President Donald Trump. Yikes, the cringe here.

Oh, and she also wants you to know she makes fun of herself by putting in a reference to that infamous video above with the “get out of my f**king shot” in her ad. She even adds a laugh track — so we don’t miss that it’s supposed to be funny. Yeesh. Then, too, it’s just the tired “Hate Trump and the rich” pitch that produces nothing that has ever helped anyone.
Porter even spoke to a reporter about how she included that part about getting out of her shot to show people she had a sense of humor and that she could change.

Pro tip, Katie? It wasn’t funny. And when they see the constructed ad versus the unconstructed viral moments of her temper, which do you think people will believe? Hint: not the ad.
Then she had this moment as well, which does not help her on the temperament question. Again, her focus: attack Trump, claiming everything he touches “turns to s***.”

Of course, Trump has been far more successful than she has ever been.
But the problem is she can’t overcome the “check those eyes” look and the unease that she projects, before you even get into the question of bad policy. She’s not even at the top of the Democrats’ polling. So she’s likely a bit desperate to move the needle at this point.
Porter probably thinks that if she puts herself out there more, it will help.
However, the problem isn’t that voters haven’t seen her; the problem is that they have.
