Warner Music Group announces a significant expansion of its global tech division with the upcoming opening of a new technology hub in Bengaluru.
Warner Music Group (WMG) has announced a major expansion to its Global Tech division with the imminent official opening of a new international technology hub in Bengaluru. The new hub will drive technical innovation across WMG’s global technology suite. It will power key initiatives in music distribution, data infrastructure, and products, from core data pipelines to audience and marketing data products, while advancing engineering efforts in those areas by leveraging AI and emerging technologies.
Mahesh Rao, Director of Software Engineering and Site Lead for India, is leading the initiative as he defines WMG’s engineering strategy, organizational design, budgets, and operating model in India. He reports directly to Toronto-based Chief Technology Officer Leho Nigul. Prior to joining WMG, Mahesh served at Walmart Global Tech, where he led software development for the retail giant.
Building on the strong foundation established by the Indian team over the past year, the Bengaluru facility is scheduled to open officially next month, with active recruitment underway across multiple technology disciplines that will build on WMG’s capabilities.
“We’re building a world-class music tech organization right here in Benagluru,” said Mahesh Rao. “The caliber of talent in this market is exceptional, and we’re looking for ambitious engineers and innovators who want to help shape the future of the global music industry.”
“Bengaluru isn’t just an extension of our tech team—it’s central to WMG’s global engineering strategy,” added Leho Nigul. “We’re investing heavily in local leadership, modern tech stacks, and globally competitive compensation to attract engineers who want to solve complex, high-throughput systems problems at the intersection of music and AI.”
“Since establishing our presence in India six years ago with our Mumbai headquarters, WMG has been deeply committed to the market,” concluded Jay Mehta, Managing Director, Warner Music India. “Our global leadership recognizes the incredible opportunities here—from our vibrant creative ecosystem to our world-class technology talent. I’m delighted that Mahesh is spearheading our expansion in Bengaluru.”
