Russell Brand Accusers Haunted by Alleged Crimes, Court Hears

Women accused of being ‘haunted’ by Russell Brand’s alleged sexual misconduct have been told in court that their experiences have deeply affected them for years. Source: bbc.co.uk.

Prosecutor’s Account of Victims’ Trauma

At Southwark Crown Court, prosecutor Reil Karmy-Jones KC said the six women involved have no financial or social incentive to speak out. Each has lived independently and rebuilt her life. Yet, the trial has forced them to relive the events in a public setting.

None sought fame or attention. Their goal was only closure. This shows how deeply the experiences have shaped their lives.

What the Victims Have Said

One complainant described a shift in Russell Brand’s behaviour. He changed from charming to intimidating and aggressive.

When she said ‘no’, he did not respond. He did not stop. He continued with actions like pulling, pushing, and thrusting.

In rape cases, he kept going until he achieved his goal. This shows a pattern of coercion and refusal to stop.

Rejection of Documentary Influence

The prosecutor dismissed claims that a documentary caused the women to re-evaluate their memories. There is no ‘magic force’ in the film.

They did not ‘re-invent’ what happened. Instead, they found that others have gone through similar experiences.

Truths That Haunt

The emotional impact of sexual violence often outweighs physical details like clothing or location.

Brand could not recall the week in question during his first interviews. Now, he claims to remember every detail. This contrast is seen as concerning.

Brand’s Character Change

Karmy-Jones KC suggested Brand may now be a different person from 1999 to 2009. He may no longer find some of his old jokes funny.

He may now treat women with kindness and respect. This reflects a possible change in values and conduct.

Wife’s Testimony

Brand’s wife, Laura, said he is a ‘kind and wonderful father’. She described herself as ‘undoubtedly lovely’ and ‘bravely’ gave evidence.

But she was not present during the alleged incidents. She wasn’t with him for the first five counts or the final two.

Any contact during those times was described as sparse.

Legal Record of Past Convictions

Defence witness Polly Dyer confirmed Brand pleaded guilty in 1995 to one charge of cannabis possession. He received a fine. He has no other convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings.

The trial continues as the court examines whether Brand committed sexual offences between 1999 and 2009.
