Inside Beaverbrook. the Site of Tom Holland and Zendaya’s Glamorous Wedding Celebration

When imagining where Tom Holland and Zendaya might host their top-secret wedding, living riverside in Richmond as they do, I would have thought Petersham Nurseries, with its rarefied, ramshackle romance and twinkling fairy lights, would have been an obvious choice. But clearly this Hollywood power couple, who are fresh off their shared box-office success with The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, wanted more glossy greenhouses, more high-voltage chandeliers, more A-list heritage. And where better to find it than Beaverbrook?

While best known for its languid charm, this sprawling estate overlooking the Surrey Hills is steeped in the headiness of its blue-blooded history, when its namesake former owner—the Canadian-British billionaire, politician and media baron, Lord Beaverbrook—would host guests like Winston Churchill and Elizabeth Taylor (who knew a thing or two about weddings) with legendary panache and generosity of spirit. And today it remains a place for martinis and (moneyed) merriment.

For any bride who has reached the stage where she needs some rest, Beaverbrook offers reflection and nurturing in the most fantastical surroundings. The checkerboard outdoor pool, neatly set in the most manicured lawns, is not to be missed, and the spa has a roll call of activities, from daily workout classes to multiple visiting healers that means any self-care definitely veers into the “divine.”

Do a moon ritual here—a journey of breathwork, yoga, sound-healing and cocoa-based tinctures—and you’ll work up quite an appetite, likely so much of one that, when you arrive in the Dining Room restaurant, the first taste of its lobster tacos will render you speechless. Equally, the olfactory blast of the vast Cire Trudon in the hallway. And then there are the colonnaded and Italianate gardens made for sipping an icy martini as you take in the sweeping views across landscaped gardens to the wild woodlands and rolling hills beyond.

Co-owners Joel Cadbury (a scion of the chocolate family fame) and Ollie Vigors (of Longshot) alongside business partners Tim Edwards and Ian Todd, all have an understanding of the elements that make you want to return, time after time.

There is the most expensive private golf course club in the country here; you can do clay pigeon shooting, but nothing veers into the ‘staid and starchy’ field, especially with the interiors which have just the right amount of swagging and gilding.

Yes, the whole affair is ineffably wondrous. As for a suite for Tom Holland and Zendaya? It would have to be the Elizabeth Taylor, a riot of dusky blues and pink hues, a canopied bed, where you will want to lie horizontal and gaze at those views, eating those lobster tacos (again). But the highlight has to be the roll top bath that was once owned by Rudolf Nureyev. For even more privacy, or perhaps the best place to accommodate the family, the Dower House is a fabulous five-bedroom private house, complete with a dreamy pool buried deep in the countryside.

And then there is the culinary creativity of The Dining Room—a huge draw in its own right. Think: Japanese scallops, steaming slithers of wagyu; aged toro tartare with huge spoons of caviar; or a memorable grilled pork with red peppercorn sauce served in the shade of a bonsai tree. Many guests come here—repeatedly—to savor chef Wojciech Popow’s creations.

He’s been sober for a year and a half now after realizing that alcohol was “all I could think about.”

I really hope the happy couple’s guests had the privilege of trying the spell-binding work of legendary OG sommelier Giovanni Tallu, who spent many years at Mark Birley’s Annabel’s. He will give you an oenophilic education on delicate sakés, as much as silky Montrachets, and his pairings are unparalleled. (Tom Holland, of course, is famously a teetotaler.)

But whatever their poison the night before, guests all appear at breakfast with the unfakeable air of being truly rested. And then, few pleasures can match the simplicity of scrambled eggs with crispy bacon—both of which Beaverbrook does with aplomb.

The best post-wedding hangover cure, in my opinion, would be to stride through fields of wildflowers to the Meadow Hut, a fantasy realm presided over by resident master of treatments Lino Zinchi, known for his signature bodywork treatments that blend shamanic breathwork, shiatsu and Swedish massage to extraordinary effect. Or to indulge in a cacao ceremony with naturopath Camilla, sipping foraged chamomile tea beneath a 200-year-old yew as you wander further into the ancient woodland. And while this place may happily cater for Hollywood power-players, it also draws the spiritual kind too.

For a total mind-body-soul reset, this September sees the return to Beaverbrook of Master Geshe YongDong Losar (Geshela), a revered Tibetan Bön lama, for a five-day residency. Across his stay he will lead breathwork and meditation, as well as tai chi and yoga classes. The peace you find here is so profound, isolated from the madness of Heathrow and Gatwick, which are equidistant and just 35 minutes away by taxi.

The only question now is: where will they honeymoon?
